Villa Kerylos Is the Hidden Gem You Never Knew About

Villa Kerylos represents the term ‘bourgeois’ in its finest.

One cannot love the french riviera without knowing about its culture. The strong presence of artists and statesmen who used to live here contributed much to the character of this land.
The story of Villa Kerylos is no different.

Located few minutes from Nice in Beaulieu-sur-mer, the villa sits on the town’s coastline under the massive cliffs of Èze.
It was constructed in 1902 for 6 years by archaeologist and french statesman Theodore Reinach that dedicated the design to the Greek culture he admired.
The name’s meaning stands for Halcyon bird, a sign for good omen.

Appreciating the details

The structure stands out from the style of other building around – both inside and out.
The large use of marble and exotic wood here is massive: creations on the wall are made of mosaic showcase Greek elements such as gods, heroes and mythical animals.

Surrounded by the Mediterranean, the villa features two terraces. One on the ground floor and one at the top, where view is absolutely epic.
Since the death of Reinach in 1928, the villa served as a residence for his children, who finally ceded the place to France as a national monument in 1968.
