The French Riviera, aka the “06” region, has a lot to offer when it comes to visual experiences.
It combines a unique blend of the French Alps with the Mediterranean Sea that the eyes simply cannot get enough of.
To enjoy this beautiful landscape, it is essential to be familiar with some good lookouts – and that is exactly why we prepared you this list of the top nine of them:
Mala Beach, Cap d’Ail
This hidden beach is situate in the city of Cap d’Ail, that borders Monaco from the west.
If you are willing to make the effort of walking about 25 minutes from the train station of Cap d’Ail (westbound), you will be privileged to discover a staggering and calm little beach surrounded by the end of the French Alps that dip their theoretical legs in the Mediterranean Sea.
It is a fair walk so it is preferred to come equipped with water and some hiking shoes. Restaurants are available on the spot.
You can equally arrive this spot by car, but take in account that parking space is limited.
Belvédère de Villefranche-sur-mer
The little village of Villefranche-sur-mer holds many jaw-dropping lookouts. This one is one of the less known ones, but nonetheless worth to discover.
On the way from Nice towards Monaco, look for the “Le Léopolda” bus stop and make a few steps down to the terrace.
The view is broad and charming, watching widely on Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat and Nice from above.
Castle Hill, Nice
Located between the Port and the eastern side of the famous Promenade des Anglais, the castle park contains several viewpoints.
Just above the artificial waterfall, you will find the highest point – which will give you the broadest angle of the city. This is also the place, which the famous blast is made from every day on midday.
Access to this 93-meter high vantage point could be made by foot or by a public elevator located here.
Mont Alban Fortress, Nice
This 16th century fortress is sitting on top of the Boron Hill, between Villefranche-sur-mer and Nice. From the peek height of 220m the views are amazing, no matter in which direction you will choose to look. Public transport to this region is poor, so we recommend you to arrive by car.
Château Eza Hôtel, Èze
Near the top of the picturesque little village of Èze, lies a 5-star hotel with an exquisite terrace view of the heart of the French Riviera coastline.
The access to this lookout is limited to the guests of the hotel or the restaurant.
Tête de Chien, La Turbie
The “Tête de Chien” (“head of the dog” in English) is a famous and unique viewpoint 550 Meters viewpoint.
Looking the principality of Monaco from high above, it is a must-visit for travelers and hiking enthusiasts – if you would like to climb it or decent from it.
Unfortunately, access by public transport is not available, and you will have to get there by car.
Oceanographic Museum, Monaco
This Baroque-styled-85-meter high, 100+ year-old institute contains some of the rarest and unique underwater creatures in existence.
Thanks to its vast size, its rooftop is an excellent vantage point from which you can see Monaco’s coastline and urban landscape.
Grand Corniche State Park, Eze
Located above the beautiful Grand Corniche (one of the 3 roads linking between Nice and Monaco), this park gives an epic view on the french riviera.
Rises to a hight of 700-meters, it is making the village of Eze look low.
