On August 2021, habitants of the French Riviera were expecting to discover a new way of mobility to carry them to the doorsteps of Monaco thanks to a new shuttle service.

Initially planned to debut on August 2021, the shuttle that connects the Lympia port of Nice and the Principality of Monaco failed to see light after failing in a tender following legal issues.

This project is made to reduce the nuisance and pollution created every day by commuters who drive between Nice and Monaco and to give a sustainable alternative to conservative types of transportation, thanks to the hybrid technology on the boats, eventually becoming fully electric.

The shuttle service promises 34 rounds of the shuttle per day with intervals of 30 minutes between each trips on peak hours (1-hour on the rest). In total, 1,200 people will be able to travel per day.
The company in charge will be Lignes d’Azur, which represents the public transport in Nice. Therefore, the same ticketing system will take place on the shuttle as well.

The project, estimated at million Euros, will solve a goal of Monaco (which takes part in the costs) to reduce the amount of cars entering the principality daily by 20% by 2030.

Although tariffs are not yet officially announced, they are said to be “attractive” according to the Côte d’Azur metropole, for they may be an alternative to trains and busses in the area.
