There are rare opportunities in life when you can experience a taste that is as good as the view you have above your dish
# le plongeoir nice
Do you know this feeling when you desire to have the good of both worlds? There are very little places that offers this experience – especially when it comes to restaurants.
If you are into this feeling of eating fine dishes and sunbath in the same time, you couldn’t go wrong with Le Plongeoir; a historical restaurant in the port of Nice.
Hidden away from the eyes of the casual tourists, it will capture the attention of the “connaisseurs” of the region.
This restaurants is specializing in seafood, which suits it’s location inside the water on two separate huge rocks near the docks.
View and taste are inseparable
Climbing on one of the rocks will get you to the sitting area – which has a clean and wonderful angle to the Mediterranean sea.
The menu is inviting with fresh fish of the day, creative decorated started and delicious home-made desserts.
We chose to go with the two lunch menus, 29 Euros each (starter+main & main+dessert).
We then got Salmon tartare and Half-cooked tuna, alongside with Cod fish and fruit tarte.
First thing’s first, we weren’t big fans of salmon tartare – until we tasted this one.
The tenderness of it amazes the tongue as soon as it meets the orange flesh of the salmon. The fact it was served with premium garlic butter completed the authentique and lively tastes and textures of this delicious creation.
Next up we came with hunger to taste the Cod fish – from which we order two units.
Why two units? Because it is so hard to cook this fish right! Cod is a delicate type that dries easily.
In this case all our worries went away, as the fish was spot-on. Rich of Mediterranean tastes were dominant and the sauce helped to emphasize them.
But the true hero of this dish was the rather big chunks of risotto that gave it a unique shape inside the mouth.
Needless to say, this dish reflected exactly the place it was served in: a special french restaurant by the sea.
To finish the experience we took one piece of creamy yet crunchy fruit tarte that made our appetite want to go through the whole thing all over again.
Can I live here?
Yes please, and if you do, make sure you have a quick access to this place.
Honestly, the food that is served here does not reflect the price tags. They are probably too cheap for this kind of scenery and menu.
For us, it represents the true essence of an afternoon in the sunny south of France: glass of wine, summer breeze, excellent food and clear mind that could process it all.
Now we are sure that a salmon tartare can be extremely tasty. Restaurants like these make us think that there is no bad food. There is only food that is not properly cooked.
Opening hours: 7 days a week, 18:30-22:30
