Gare du Sud, the former train station of Nice, reinvents itself in a new incarnation
The city of Nice is in the midst of a fascinating era when the center is expanding and renewing all the time.
One of the latest projects in town was the revival of the old train station “Gare du Sud”. Now, its is a hot location for hangouts.
Built in 1892, the building used as the second train station to Nice from the villages that are located north to it.
After changing its purposes several times, it was finally inaugurated as a commercial center in early 2019.
The new 3,000 m² area is now home to food stands, clothing shops and bars from various kinds of cuisines. The latter refers to Italian, Mediterranean, Far-eastern, American and French – all of which are truly impressive. some are incredibly cheap as well!
It feels like new wind in town thanks to the atmosphere in the hall. Music is played constantly in the evenings and it seemed that everyone enjoyed themselves looking for their new clothes or meals.
Other than places to eat and drink, the compound features a cinema, a coffee shop (Starbucks), a supermarket and an underground parking.
Access to the center is easy with public transport, as it is facing the “Liberation” tram station.
As the center is still in development, there is always something new to see. We would recommend on a combo of eating dinner there, followed by a movie in the new cinema.
