The city of shine and glamour: take a closer look at Cannes and its special islands

If you have the slightest interest in the french riviera, you must know about Cannes. This is the city of movies that hosts one of the biggest and oldest film festivals in the world.

In some languages, Cannes means “reed”, which may be the true meaning of the name.
Like a typical city in the region, it started its life as a conflict zone that many rulers fought for, and now is a resort for leisure and vacation.

Speaking of which, the city is easily for traveling thanks to promenade “La Croisette”. Along it there are some posh hotels like JW Marriott, Majestic, Carlton and more.

Tourists will find here great lounge bars and clubs for the night, and an old part of the city to have lunch with view from above for daytime.

A special part of Cannes are the small islands facing the shore.
The bigger one is called Île Sainte-Marguerite. Legend has it that it once there was mystery prisoner in the jail inside the fortress on the northern side of the island.

Unlike its bigger brother, Île Saint-Honorat, the island next to the aforementioned is still populated – but exclusively with monks.
These monks divide their time between praying and making wine (which is very good from our experience).
