When visiting Nice, it is good to know the best adresses when it comes to local cuisine. Welcome to Bistrot d’Antoine
# Bistrot d’Antoine
Nice is a beautiful city to spend time, no doubts about that. It is also home to some fine restaurants – even Michelin starred.
Sometimes, it doesn’t take much money or search to find a restaurant that represent a theme of a city. In this case, it is right in the most busy part of the city – the old town. Time to meet Bistot d’Antoine – one of Nice’s most iconic restaurants.
We choose to start with the most popular salad of Nice, the salade Niçoise. It is one of the few in town which is served with raw tuna rather than from a can. It defiantly makes a good impression as it upgrades the dish significantly.
When it is winter time, the traditional soup with gnocchi is excellent and delicate both in texture and taste.
Further on we ordered the Cocotte de Cochon (16€), a stewed pig served in wine, Duck Breast (16€), and fried Fois Gras.
The duck breast was soft and tasty, but I was not sure about the beet sauce that was served with it.
The Cocotte was a meal to remember. It is intense in taste that reminds more beef than pig – which I think is a compliment.
Next come the desserts: Tiramisu and Vanilla Pana Cotta.
Both are great, but it is the Pana Cotta with its red fruits who steals the show.
Because of its lightness and delicacy that is more addicting than the Tiramisu, that feels more “heavy”.
Pricing here is another reason for celebration, as they are fairly low – especially considering the value.
It was an iconic restaurant and probably always will be. A place that is so loyal its tradition and menu deserves its massive popularity. The fully-booked routine confirms it.
