# best beaches french riviera
Anyone who ever took a few days to travel around Nice and its surroundings during summer knows how the beaches usually look like: either coated with pebbles, or just covered with tiny bits of rocks. Needless to say, non of which are as comfortable to walk on as good old sand.
Yes, there are some advantages to pebbles: you can come with any clothes you like, sit on the coast for a while and continue your day without any problems of inconvenience in your shoes or other parts of your body. Yet if you just came for a nice barefoot walk on the beach – that is when trouble begin.
So, are we here to tell you the good news or the bad ones?
As always, we have the positive answer for you.
We went in a search for any sandy beaches with three conditions in mind: they have to be close to public transport, public and in less than 1 hour of travel from Nice. Here you have it:
The beach of Saint Laurent du Var
Apparently, there is no need to look too far away from Nice to get some softness under your foot.
The commune of St. Laurent du Var is located minutes away from Nice airport, and access is easy thanks to the presence of the town’s train station.
The beach is nice and calm, even on high season but there is a small catch: the sand here is not the smoothest and has a dark color to it. So if you are looking for a more picturesque and softer turf to walk on, continue reading.

Plage du Soleil Vallauris
This beach is one of the best in the region when it comes to soft sand.
Located ideally from the Golfe-Juan-Vallauris train station, it offers a generous piece of sand to walk on, nearby parking spaces and calmness like no other. Only 33 minutes away from Nice, it is our favorite one to go to.

Cannes la Bocca beach
The beaches of Cannes are marvelous, no doubt, but one really has to know where go. Why? glad you asked.
Beaches around the center are nice and cool except from one thing: big chunks of the shore are privatized during summer, leaving no space for a random stroll around without buying expensive drinks and food.
There is a solution: instead of getting off at the Cannes stop, continue further one more station to Cannes La Bocca, where you will find a nice sandy beach in front of it. Fun guaranteed!

Beach of Villefranche-sur-mer
The coastline of Villefranche is only covered in sand in some parts, but the reward is inside the water where it contains true sandy awesomeness.
Other things that will surly compensate are the breathtaking view and the short access to the train station.

Almost made it to the list: Bay of Antibes
One may think that when a shore is sandy, it is also true to the water part. Sadly, it is not true to the beach of Antibes that hides some big rocks inside the water that are better to be dodged.
