The chase after a complete restaurant by the ocean pays off at A’trego
Mediterranean kitchen can come to the best only when sitting on one of its coasts. That is the exact case with A’trego in Cap d’Ail, on the coast meters away from Monaco.
In these challenging times, the natural choice is to sit outside – preferably right by the waters. What great occasion it is to have the Mediterranean sea on one side and the impressive pre-alps on the other.
We started this lunch by having the daily manu which included Tuna Tataki served on home made hummus. Both are delicate yet present in taste and for us it is the ideal appetizer. All that without forgetting red wine and excellent grilled bread served alongside anchovy Tapenade.
“Pieds dans l’eau”, head in the sky
After enjoying the appetizers, the main courses are grilled and crispy salmon served on carrots and puree with garnish of avocado & green leaves. The salmon was spot on, having enough punch in taste yes juicy with crispy skin.
On the meat side we took veal chop with mashed porcini mushrooms, crispy herb crumble and gravy. The meat is soft, the sauce is aromatic and well background by the mushroom blend.
Saving best for last, came the Millefeuille that took the enjoyment to a new level. It comes with cherries, cherry ice cream & sauce. But the big deal here is how it is arranged: instead of having all layers cramped on each other, here each puff pastry and crème pâtissière got their own respected place and the result is devine in taste, as well as impeccably generous.
All in all, it is a must have experience when reaching the area. It is a great chance to discover Mediterranean kitchen via French eyes, backed by amazing views.
