One might think that the french riviera is all about beaches, yachting and chilling on beach clubs.
Not that it is all that bad, but this sub-region is only one part of 3 classifications given from the regions full name: Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur.
As the “Alpes” is a very prominent part of the area, we thought it would be nice to introduce you to one of the most legendary roads of it: Col de Turini.
This road is famous for being the leading choice for the Monte-Carlo Rally event and, and often the Tour de France.
Its changing of altitudes and technical character makes it challenging for both drivers and riders to race through.
The uniqueness of this road even draw the attention of Top Gear TV show in the first episode of the 10th season.
Apart from its use of racing, it is a breathtaking road to enjoy casually, that leads to a 1,607 high peak.
There are endless stops on different spots that will make you think you are in Switzerland. All of this is only an hour away from Nice.
Here is our suggestion for a good weekend run. Don’t forget to fuel your cars BEFORE climbing – there are no gas stations after you leave Nice!
Directions
1. From Nice, take the D2204 road towards Lucéram.
2 . Take the exit towards L’Escarène, changing for D2566 and passing through the village.
3. Keep on D2566 crossing Luceram.
4. Continue down with the road towards the valley of Vesubie. At the junction, take road D73 towards Lantosque.
5. Continue with the road as it changes to M73.
6. At this point, change back to D73 and go via Lantosque.
7 . Merge on to M173 (Route de la Vesubie) until it merges with merges with M2565.
8. Go with M2565 all the way up to Turini.
Detour: Few minutes from there is the “Camp d’Argent” circuit. This is a stunning lap on that surrounds the mountains, seeing some wildlife on the way.
9. At the top, take road D68 towards Camp d’Argent and make the circuit.
10. Get back to Turini and pick the M2565 towards Sospel/Moulinet.
11. On the way down after passing Moulinet, take a stop at the Chapelle Notre-Dame de la Ménour. This 780m high chapel is located on a cliff surrounded by gigantic hills. It is certainly a must-see!
12. Finish the road at Sospel and change road to D2204 towards Nice.
*This part is particularly fun for drivers and riders, as the road becomes wider and less busy.
